Massage Therapists

Seth Seay
Seth Seay, Massage Therapist
Seth has practiced massage for six years and his work with athletes has strengthened his interest in the role of massage therapy in rehabilitation.

His interest in massage developed while involved in high school musicals, quickly gaining a reputation for relieving the pressure of being on stage. Encouraged by friends, he enrolled in the 1080 Massage Practitioner program at the Central Pennsylvania School of Massage in State College, PA, and passed the National Certification exam shortly after completing the program in March of 2000.

He spent the next three years in the mountain towns of Steamboat Springs and Aspen, Colorado practicing massage and cooking while developing his skills as a big mountain snowboarder.

Also, in 2003 he spent a year teaching at the Great Lakes Institute of Technology in Erie, Pennsylvania where he taught Swedish massage, introduction to Shiatsu and ethics before returning to the mountains.

Education:
He is currently enrolled at San Diego Mesa College taking courses in preparation for a bachelor’s in Pre-Physical Therapy from San Diego State University. He has also been involved in the culinary arts for 10 years and studies nutrition both independently and at the college level.

Ivy joined the team at Balance Plus Physical Therapy in June 2008. She is currently working toward a human biology major at the University of California, San Diego. Ivy plans to continue her education and become a pediatric physical therapist.

Her passion for physical therapy developed at a young age. While in high school, Ivy worked in the special education department as a peer tutor for a student with blindness. She helped the student walk and learn to communicate using his speech therapy devices. Helping the student with his rehabilitation reinforced Ivy’s desire to pursue physical therapy as a career. She also served as the president of her high school’s Best Buddies Club, a club which helps students with intellectual disabilities make friends.

In the fall of 2008, Ivy attended massage school at the Meridian International School of Health Sciences. She completed the 100-hour massage technician program, learning the anatomy and methodology of circulation massage.
